This is Norwich University's tips on how to get accepted to college:
• Academic Preparedness. Norwich looks at the student's high-school transcript to make sure they are prepared for the rigors of the program they are pursuing. • Resume. It is advised, but not mandatory to submit a resume. We look for students who are motivated, value service to others and show initiative. • Personal Essay. While optional, we recommend students use a one-page essay to highlight something we don’t know about them. • Letter of Recommendation. Letters from teachers, coaches, counselors, JROTC instructors or employers are recommended. Two is an ideal number. East Bay scholars were challenged this week at USF's low ropes course. We learned about team building, communication, and trust! How can you incorporate these skills into challenges faced at school?
Students can significantly increase their SAT scores by using Khan Academy. Our Spoto scholars had a great time exploring the University of Central Florida's campus. We walked over 3.0 miles around campus and had a very knowledgeable tour guide who gave us information on programs and campus life. Check out UCF's official website for more information.
I am excited to announce my new role as GEAR UP counselor! It took a lot for me to get to where I am today. I started my journey working hard in high school and earned a scholarship to Coastal Carolina University where I majored in Psychology. After graduating with my BA degree, I moved to Michigan where I served as an AmeriCorps member in the Metro Detroit area as a Certified Prevention Specialist. This work lead me to pursue my MA degree in School Counseling at Wayne State University. I worked as a School Counselor and Safe and Supportive Schools Coordinator before moving to Florida. I was fortunate to work as Guidance Department Head at Brandon High School for the past 2 years before getting to serve students through the GEAR UP program!
